The Category Specific add-on allows you to associate a Magento category with a WordPress category, so relevant products can be displayed within WordPress category or post pages.
The Category Specific Widget allows you to show products from specific Magento categories per WordPress category. This is great for keeping product cross-sells relevant to the blog category your user is currently in. The options include:
You have a store that sells a variety of things. Two of the store categories are Earrings and Running Shoes. You have a blog on the site offering reviews and insight into your product markets, also organised into categories.
If you wanted your products to show in the sidebar of your blog as cross-sells, you’d want to make sure they are relevant to the category your user is in. This extension allows you to define a Magento category ID per WordPress category. You can now associate your Running Shoes Magento category to your Sports category in your WordPress blog; this means while your user is browsing the Sports category, they will see products in the sidebar that relate to what they are reading, rather than seeing a set of earrings which they will have no interest in.
Once purchased, you will be given a link to download the plugin. Simply navigate to Plugins → Add New → Upload, and upload the downloaded zip file. Once uploaded and installed, click activate.
After activating the add-on, navigate to Appearance → Widgets. You will see a new widget called Mage/WP: Category specific products simply drag this into a sidebar position and enter your parameters.
You will then need to assign Magento Category IDs to your WordPress Categories. Navigate to Posts → Categories. Click into any of your existing categories and find the field titled “Related Magento Category ID“. Here you can enter the ID of your Magento category. If left blank, the widget will show products from your default category, defined in the widget settings. If you leave the default category blank as well, the widget will not show.
If the widget appears on a page or post that has no category, it will use the default category ID. If no default ID is entered, the widget will not show.
Once activated, you will have a new option in Settings → Mage/WP that allows you to enable/disable the default styles for products display via a widget or shortcode.
After purchasing, you are permitted to use your add-on on multiple websites.
The Category Specific Widget add-on requires that the core MWI plugin is installed and setup.
